但是，在上周末的抗日战争胜利日纪念活动上，我们同样回想起当男子和妇女齐心协力与暴政势力斗争和建立一个美好世界所带来的好处。我们见证了世界大部分地区半个世纪的和平。我们避免了新的世界大战。但是，我们没有解决旧的、根深蒂固的问题，这个问题将继续减少潜在的世界另一半人口。
But we have also been reminded, in V-J Day observances last weekend, of the good that comes when men and women join together to combat the forces of tyranny and to build a better world. We have seen peace prevail in most places for a half century. We have avoided another world war. But we have not solved older, deeply-rooted problems that continue to diminish the potential of half the world’s population.
现在，是世界另一半妇女行动的时候了。如果我们采取大胆的措施来改善妇女的生活，那么，我们也就能采取大胆的步骤改善儿童和家庭的生活了。家庭依赖于母亲和妻子精神上的支持和照顾。家庭依靠妇女在家中的劳动，以及越来越多的世界各地的家庭依赖于妇女的收入来抚养健康的儿童和照顾其他亲属。
Now it is the time to act on behalf of women everywhere. If we take bold steps to better the lives of women, we will be taking bold steps to better the lives of children and f***lies too. F***lies rely on mothers and wives for emotional support and care. F***lies rely on women for labor in the home. And increasingly, everywhere, f***lies rely on women for income needed to raise healthy children and care for other relatives.
只要世界上歧视和不公正现象仍然很普遍，只要女孩和妇女仍然不被重视、喂得少、最后喂、过度劳累、报酬过低、未受教育、遭受家里家外的暴力——创造一个和平繁荣世界的人类家园便无法实现。
As long as discrimination and inequities remain so commonplace everywhere in the world, as long as girls and women are valued less, fed less, fed last, overworked, underpaid, not schooled, subjected to violence in and outside their homes—the potential of the human f***ly to create a peaceful, prosperous world will not be realized.
让本次会议成为我们和世界行动的呐喊。让我们响应这一呼吁，以便我们能够建立一个世界，在这个世界中每个女人都被尊重和有尊严，每个男孩和女孩都被平等地关心和爱护，每个家庭都拥有一个强大和稳定的未来的希望。这就是摆在你面前的工作。这就是摆在我们所有人面前的工作——希望看到所期望的世界——为我们的子孙后代。
